About Us

The Vakoc lab invents, develops, tests, and translates photonic technologies for applications in biology and medicine.

In medicine, we are developing coherent optical imaging techniques and platforms that improve visualization during medical procedures, with a specific focus on building novel intra-operative imaging methods.

For the biologist, we advance optical microscopy tools to enable new insight into disease processes and therapeutic responses.

The lab is located on the Massachusetts General Hospital main campus within the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, the world’s largest academic research facility dedicated to investigating the effects of light on human biology and to the development of light-mediated, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
